THE FRUIT OF OUR CHOICES & THE CHOICE BEFORE US

Daniel prayed a prayer for his nation that I believe is apropos for us as we face the upcoming election. I would encourage us to consider this a prayer for the church and our nation:

We set our face toward the Lord, to seek Him in prayers, fasting and repentance.  We confess, “To our Lord, who keeps covenant and mercy to them that love Him, in obeying His laws – we have sinned, and have rebelled against You in departing from Your ways.  We have not obeyed Your prophets and apostles who have spoken in Your name to us and to our nation.  You are righteous, but we are ashamed because of our sins against You.  You have been merciful and forgiving to us in our rebellion against You.  We have not obeyed Your voice, to walk in Your laws which You have set before us.   Because of our disobedience, a curse and its resulting effects are upon us.  We have not repented that we might be forgiven and freed to understand Your truth.  You have seen our sin and in Your righteousness, You have given us the fruit of our choices.  We petition You, according to Your righteousness, be merciful to us and to our nation, even though our sins have become a reproach to You and all the nations.  We ask You to hear us and cause Your face to shine upon us and our nation for the sake of Your great name.  Though we are in our sin and shame, in repentance, we ask You to hear us, and instead of judgment, pour out Your great mercy upon us because of Your righteousness.  Hear us and heal us and our nation for the sake of the glory of Your name.”

Our choice right now is whether we will be distracted once again in an election year with the choices we have as candidates and all the while the spirit of antichrist continues to arise in our midst building strongholds of anger and despair in our hearts.  When will realize that we cannot expect to hear truth from most sources in this hour?    Jesus asked the question, “when the Son of man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”.  How is it that much of the church still believes in the unreliable, fractured and corrupt political system as a means of hope for our nation?  How is it that we have taken on the same bad attitudes as those around us?  Our responsibility is to show forth the character and nature of our King, the Lord, Jesus.

We must turn our hearts to the Lord, as Daniel, and turn from our sins, confess our moral failure, and ask God to forgive us and cause His face to shine upon us.  This is the choice before us and the “vote” we must all participate in.  We must stand as intercessors and cry out for our nation and follow that up with our willingness to be agents of change.  We are those who should be praying for, believing for and living lives that example to those around us that hope.  Our hope is in the Lord.  He is not finished with America.  Our best days are ahead of us!  Selah.
