I awakened recently as if out of a deep sleep, as if I had been lulled to sleep and was in the midst of a dream and a fantasy concerning our nation. What was this fantasy? The belief that the election of the “right person” as president is what will cure all that ails our nation. Nothing could be further from the truth. As an American citizen, I have always been an engaged participant in our national elections wanting to believe I am making a difference by voting. I still believe in voting and will vote in November. What I will not do is put my trust in any man or woman to have the solutions this nation needs.
As November approaches, no one could have predicted the reality of what we face as a nation in the choice for the highest office in the land. We are divided along party and racial lines. Both party agendas are crafted to the hearers and their desires, yet when we examine the fruit of them we are alarmed. One cries to “Make America great again” and the other says “We are stronger together”. Although both slogans are equally appealing there is a disconnect with most Americans from what is really happening. We are not great as a nation because we have made choices to separate ourselves from what made America great. We are anything but united with no hope in sight of coming together for the good of all. Instead, prevailing emotions of fear and anger are practically driving people to act in ways that are perplexing to our understanding. We have lost our way.
An honest observation of our nation reveals a seductive deceptive darkness is gripping the minds of Americans. With every election cycle our desire to trust in the system seems to escalate, and in this year’s cycle it has mushroomed beyond belief. Our leaders are deluded by political agendas that are a façade for their love for the freedom to live without restraint in a direct affront to the Biblical principles that have foundationally made this nation great. We are seeing the result of the dealings of God with a nation that has been given over to its basest passions and desires. God’s removal of restraint from men’s hearts reveals that they are choosing darkness and God is giving it to them. Make no mistake; there are consequences to these choices. Mind you, this is not doom and gloom but truth.
The next four years, no matter who is elected, are going to be traumatic as unrest, chaos and lawlessness continue to manifest from the hearts and lives of a people who have forsaken God and do not choose to acknowledge Him. For those of us who know and love God and weep for our nation, we must enter into a place of repentance and intercession for ourselves and our nation. Our responsibility as light in the midst of darkness has never been more important. We must resist the temptation to enter into the fray, taking sides against our countrymen. We are being called up higher to a place of intercession and exampling of the ways of our King and His kingdom – Jesus, the one true hope for America. Selah.
